About

Vormer Cabinetry LLC has been in business since 1995. We don’t have a standard line of cabinetry because we focus on custom. We try to achieve what is being requested, be it by the owner, architect, designer or contractor and work equally well with either or all.

It all started a long time ago when Mattijs Vormer’s father was renovating their family home, located in The Hague, in The Netherlands. The Hague is where Mattijs grew up, and as a 5 year old Mattijs was there to help him with the renovation, and that’s how he got construction in his blood. Throughout his youth he worked for friends and neighbors, making various cabinets, including book cases, entertainment centers, coffee tables, and much more. After Mattijs graduated high school, he attended a trade school where he was taught general carpentry, followed by a year of machine operation and ‘fine’ woodworking. In 1987 Mattijs moved to upstate NY where he started working for a contractor. Having been raised in Europe, the building techniques were completely different from what he had learned in school, and it felt as if he had to relearn everything from scratch. Mattijs soon decided that general carpentry was not what he wanted to continue with, so he started working for a millwork company in Albany, NY, where the focus was more on cabinetry. Most of the work produced was for the commercial industry, making quantity cabinets rather than quality cabinets. In 1992 Mattijs started working for himself, still renovating houses, but including custom cabinetry. He was allowed to use a friend’s shop, where Mattijs got his first real experience making custom cabinets. In 1995 he started gathering tools to start his own shop. In 1997 Mattijs was able to move into an empty cow barn, where Vormer Cabinetry started. He was soon joined by Bradley Martino, who started in 1999. The jobs were still small and new skills were being developed, however, they cranked a lot of work out of that shop, outgoing the space they were in. Just before the crash of 2008 Mattijs purchased his own building, which became the new shop. Alex Strompf came to work for the company in 2009 and in 2010 they moved from the old cow barn to the new shop, where they are still working today. Georgia Landman became part of the team in 2017 and is in charge of streamlining the office work. Many past jobs took place in NYC, however, today most of the work is located in upstate NY and Western Massachusetts, ranging from small bookcases to large cabinetry packages for spacious homes.
